Would be nice if I could install it November 9, 2008 Yes, I read the reviws and I was stupid enough to buy this version of the game and the serial number with the game was invalid. I returned the game foe a different one and the same thing, invalid key entered. There's the number on the back of the book and on this swank piece of paper that same with it. It would have been nice to try the game out, but since I can't install it all I have is this fancy box.
THQ secretly installs SecureROM DRM - game may not run if you have DVD-burning programs September 19, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
After three attempts with the same "Wrong disc installed" message, I contacted THQ. Their Customer Support advised me to uninstall all the disc-copying software on my new computer in order to make this game run after game installation. Unfortunately, the disc burning software on my computer is also the same package that plays DVD movies.
The SecureROM DRM software that loads with COH scans your system, and if SecureROM isn't satisfied with the programs that are on your system, it will disable the game. There's no way of knowing this until you call support.
THQ absurdly believes that the credible solution to their glitchy DRM scheme is to have customers disable the data transfer ability of their computers by removing any and all programs that copy data to disc, and potentially also disable programs that play DVD movies and other standard media. The idiocy behind THQ's policy is awe-inspiring.
Do not buy this version of COH. Its installation requirements are as bad as the EA / Spore DRM methodology, and it furthermore loads and DOES NOT remove SecureROM after uninstallation of the game.
On my system, this game was essentially a trojan horse spyware installer.
Great for those who like strategy WW2 Games June 4, 2008 Great game, specially to play with your friends over the net. I'm sure it will pleasure MS Age of Empires fans.
3 hours of my life and $20 I'll never get back... May 14, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I haven't actually played the game because it just won't run. I have a new computer and my specs are great but because of the security I can't get it to run. I put in the CD. It downloads and then nothing. I put in the CD again and it takes me to a screen where I MUST register. It then reads that to play online, you need a patch. I don't want to play online so I hit cancel. Nothing happens and it is back to my desktop. I try the process again and this time hit okay. It downloads and installs this patch and then nothing. It is back to my desktop. I try the process again and am told I need another patch. Same thing happens. 5 downloads and 3 hours later another patch needs to be downloaded, I give up. I just can't do this again. I remember the good old days when one would pay their hard-earned cash, get the game, put in the CD and be playing the game within 10 minutes. Now, you buy a game and get nothing but frustration. They say that PC games as a genre are dying. No mystery why. Just imagine buying a book and not being able to read it or buying a CD and not being able to listen to it because they are so concerned that you will lend the book/CD to someone else that they make it impossible to use. There should be a class-action suit against game makers that do this.
One of the Best Games! March 3, 2008 I am a good fan of these type of games. This is a great game to have.
