I bought McAfee as my first anti-virus software in 1998. It was $19 for standalone one year or at $38, you got lifetime updates. I went for the $38 package. Guess what, McAfee reneged on the lifetime updates. I called them a few years ago to try to get some satisfaction and they said they didn't know what I was talking about and hung up.

I purchased this on line and installed on February 20, 2010 and, it said "My Computer is Secure No action Needed". Stupid me I didn't check any further, I thought everything was working as I continued to get this message. Until last night when I got hit with a nasty virus and my pc froze up and I had to pay $89.95 for their tech to clean my computer of what turned out to be more viruses than I was able to count and one they still can't get rid of. It turns out that in 6 months this McAfee software has never looked for updates, even though it says it is doing them, and has never scanned my computer for viruses, which it is supposed to do automatically yet it says all the protection is working. Nice game they have going here, make you pay for the software to protect you which sits on your computer and does nothing and then when you get a problems they charge you $89.95 to clean up the things the software didn't do. They are trying to tell me that they can't always be up-to-date with the latest viruses, but today is August 1st, 2010 and they have not given me any updates in 6 months and they cannot even get my software to get updates manually. They will not admit that their software isn't working even though it is doing absolutely nothing to protect me. As a final note, I was hit again with a major virus after they supposedly fixed my pc. The 3rd tech who worked on my pc virtually killed it. It would have cost me so much to put it right I ended up having to buy a new pc, needless to say I am not using McAfee with it. Do not buy this anti-virus program it is useless and their techs will destroy your machine. I never had a problem with Norton Antivirus, it did what it was supposed to.

very easy to install. Updates on its own and scans periodically without you even knowing. This is a lot better than Norton or any other virus protection. I feel Mcafee is the most simple product for this use out there and i have use this company for more than 5 years now and have tried others in that time to and have never strayed away for more the a week before switching back, don't make the expensive mistake i did and just pick the best one from the start, you won't regret it!

I have been a Mcafee fan for 2 years and when my product expired, I obviously sought out for the latest edition. First off: good price. $10 plus a reasonable shipping fee. That's always a good start; but it seems that the transition to Windows 7 has not been very kind to Mcafee. It always seems to shut off every time I start up my computer or update it, so i have to constantly keep tuning it on manually every time I boot up my computer. This can be a hassle when I'm installing new software. Not only does it shut off, but it seems a bit slower than the previous versions. Oh, and if you prefer not to have any desktop icons like me, then your out of luck. Every time I delete the icon it just re-appears after I boot up my computer. This is very annoying and Mcafees solutions have not solved this or the shutting off issue. Overall, this product is pretty sub par now. It gets the job done, but it's a bit unstable. I'm pretty disappointed, but I will still use this product until I decide on an alternative. I'd suggest the same for anyone else.
