5 out of 5 stars Linspire 5.0 Is the Best OS Out there! No Vista for me!   August 1, 2006

Right from the download to the install this OS did everything right! I too have tried diffrent OS's BeOS, Linux Mandrake, Linux Suse Pro 9.3, Linux Red Hat, OS-2, Windows 95,98,ME, & Dos, take your pick! I have found this Linux Linspire to be the best of them all! Its the first version of Linux to see all of my hardware during setup. It's fast And yes it is simple to use! That's the idea behind this version of Linux, is to make it easy for windows user's to move over to Linux. I am sure a lot of Linux power user's would disagree about it being the best, but not everyone wants to play around with the operating system it self. But would rather get some work done, and on a stable system. And as for cost, yes you do pay a litte more with Linspire, for some software than other versions of Luinux, but it's still vastly cheeper than MS Windows software and you still can get free software. If you need a stable version of Linux and you're feedup with Windows and all its crashes, then Linspire is the OS for you!

1 out of 5 stars Great distro for AOL types   April 2, 2006

This is probably one of the worst distros available based on the Linux OS kernel. Many of the features, icons, etc. are very 'kid-like' and over-simplified. Not to mention that this distribution has some major issues with graphic drivers. After installation of this software, there is persistent emphasis to join the 'Click-N-Run' community, which is full of a lot of applications which are largely useless. Most of the productive software apps available for Linux are available totally for free on the internet. If you're nothing more than a glorified AOL user, and want something overly simplistic and kid-like, than Linspire might be a great choice. Maybe it's just me but I have a tough time with a company which claims that their software is a perfect alternative to Windows, but absolutely does not support any 'dual-boot' scenarios. Many users of Linux are forced to use both, due to some software which has no Linux functionality whatsoever. Pitching a product as a great alternative and then offering no support is a contradiction. For a more serious user, try SuSE 10.0. It's installation is very well done, their dual-boot works very well, and the documentation provided is excellent. You do not need to buy this product which gives you almost zero support and NO documentation. What exactly are you paying for anyway with Linspire?

3 out of 5 stars not the best version of Linux   March 26, 2006

Linspire 5.0 is a moderately decent OS. There are some problems with sound that needs to be fixed (mainly when you use Lsongs) It seems a lot of people have had these issues. It is easy to install and CNR makes it easy to find applications. I suggest trying Suse 10.0. It has fewer bugs, just a little more time consuming to install to hard drive. you can buy the retail version with manual and tech support for new users, or download it for free at opensuse.org. I would rank Suse 10.0 over Linspire or Windows

5 out of 5 stars Linspire OS   January 25, 2006

I installed this OS and it booted up very nicely and found my stuff. I am very pleased with how Linspire works...Microsoft's "facts" do not mesh very well with my direct experience.
The gui is very pleasing to the eye and Linspire is as easy as pie to use.
Linspire also has Click And Run,which makes installing and using software a piece of cake.
On the downside,it does boot up rather slowly and sometimes the browser will crash after showing a video. However,I'm confident that these minor problems will be ironed out by the powers that be.
I was going to do a Windows/Linspire duel boot, but after one week of using this OS,I decided that it does everything i want so why do I need Windows?
Using Linspire,I also don't have to worry about the latest virus or spyware and no more never-ending updates to fix yet another hole found in MS's swiss-cheese armor.
So I'm a happy camper now.

5 out of 5 stars Linspire is great!!!   December 9, 2005

I bought this version from another website. I installed on a laptop and the install process was quick. The loading of the actual OS, however takes a little longer than Windows XP. However, you don't have to worry about viruses or spyware or hacks, etc. The system seems secure. The wireless function is amazing!
CNR (Click and Run) is a program that installs software at ease. I have not yet subscribed to their premier CNR where it gives deep discounts on products such as star office and other programs such as Doom 3.
Overall, I recommend it!
