I've been using Xandros since the 2.01 Open Circulation Edition days from way back in 2004. I really started getting into Xandros once I acquired a copy of Xandros 3.0 Deluxe Edition (check out my review of that product).
Recently, I got Xandros 3.0 Business Edition as a birthday present. 5 must say that in my personal opinion, this is the best computer operating system I have ever used.
EASY TO INSTALL
As with the Deluxe Edition, Xandros is so easy to install. Just a few mouse clicks, and it installs in less than 20 minutes. Compare that to the time it takes to install Windows XP, which can take up to an hour.
SECURITY
Every edition of the Xandros Desktop OS requires you to set a password for the administrator (aka "root") account. This assures that no unauthorized people can access the administrator account. Although it is recommended that you set up user accounts and avoid using the root account as a regular account, you can use the root account as a user account if you want to. As with other Linux-based OSes, Windows-based and Mac-based spyware/adware/malware WILL NOT RUN on Xandros.
In addition, Xandros 3.0 Business Edition comes with a firewall program and an anti-virus program. Now there are virtually no Linux-based viruses out in the open, but Linux-based OSes can still send out viruses through e-mail to computers running Windows or Mac OS X.
EASY TO CONFIGURE
You get a Control Center where you can configure how your desktop looks like and acts like. You want it to behave like Mac OS? You can. Want a screensaver to come on after 10 minutes or not at all? It's your choice.
EASE OF ADDING SOFTWARE
As with the Deluxe Edition, you get a 2nd CD which contains extra applications. What sets this edition (the Business Edition) apart from and ahead of the other Xandros editions is the inclusion of Sun StarOffice 8 on the 2nd CD...complete will on-line support from Sun Microsystems! You can also use Xandros Networks to download and install additional programs from the internet.
EASY TO GET ONLINE
It is easy to get online with Xandros...whether it's dial-up, DSL, cable, or WiFi. Dial-up modems with Conexant HSF chipsets are compatible with Xandros 3.0 Business Edition out of the box. All it takes is opening the console and running the command "hsfconfig". You can also use ndiswrapper to install drivers for your WiFi card. The default web browser for Xandros 3.0 Business Edition is Mozilla Firefox, and you can choose either Ximian/Novell Evolution or Mozilla Thunderbird as your email client. By using Xandros Networks, I have managed to download and install BitTornado, K3b (a Nero-like CD/DVD burning app), Gaim (a multi-protocol chat client tool), and KXDocker (a Mac OS X-like bottom docking toolbar).
EASE OF INSTALLING WINDOWS-BASED SOFTWARE
Included with Xandros 3.0 Business Edition is a full version of Codeweavers Crossover Office 4.2 Standard Edition. Crossover Office allows you to install some (not all) Windows-based software and run such Windows-based software on Xandros. Using Crossover Office, I have installed Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1, Apple iTunes 4.9 (I use iTunes to listen to the Alex Jones radio show on GCN), WinRAR, Winzip, and the Windows version of Mozilla Internet Suite version 1.7.13.
OVERALL COST VS. WINDOWS
As with the Deluxe Edition, in the long run, every edition of Xandros is a better overall value than Windows XP and Microsoft Office. If you want to install Windows XP on five computers, you have to buy five SEPARATE copies/licenses of Windows XP...and with Windows Vista's future release later this year, to install Windows Vista on five computers will be even more expensive. But with Xandros, you can install it on as many computers that you want to and not have to buy any additional licenses. Want MS Office on the same five computers? That would run around $2,500! Want StarOffice on the same five computers? You just pay for one copy (which is part of Xandros 3.0 Business Edition's low price). The cost savings speak VOLUMES.
IN CONCLUSION
Xandros 3.0 Business Edition is definitely the best OS I have used since Xandros 3.0 Deluxe Edition. With the inclusion of StarOffice8 (which retails for almost $70) and various extra easy-to-install programs, it really is one of the best values you will find when it comes to computer OSes. Trust me...I've used them all : Windows, Mac OS, Ubuntu, and Linspire...and none of them hold a candle to Xandros when it comes to meeting my computing needs.

This Linux operating system coupled with the book "Linux Made Easy: The Official Guide to Xandros 3 for Everyday People" is just about all you will need!
If you don't have any Linux experience or knowledge and want an EASY transition...Xandros 3.0 is the way to go.
This is not a limited version. If your a home or business user looking for a quick, affordable and VERY FRIENDLY product...go with Xandros.
Xandros has made the specific effort of trying to be just like Windows XP using the Linux kernel. It succeeds! If you want an easy, simple to use, full featured experience try Xandros 3.0 Business Edition. The business edition does supply you with Star Office 7 (the Linux/open source version of Microsoft's Office 2003)and CodeWeaver's CrossOver Office (a program that allows you to run many Windows programs in a Linux environment). You can also purchase these separately. CodeWeaver will be releasing version 5 in September and version 6 in December. I would wait and buy version 6, it is going to knock your socks off with rich features and compatibility!!!
To sum it all up and keep this review short, simple and sweet -
Xandros Business Desktop 3 is an excellent Linux distro to learn on, it is extremely easy to use, learn and install. It acts just like Windows XP, it automatically configures itself (right out of the box!!!) to communicate with an existing Windows network. I did not think it would be that easy until I tried navigating my business LAN and found it was already done for me!! HOORAY!!!!
Xandros is soooooooo beginner/user friendly. You will feel right at home and it will only cost you $120 !!! Windows XP Pro costs $200. If you have 1 home machine, you save $80. If you have 10 office computers, you save $800!
This product is also FAST, especially on older computers. I had 5 old Pentium 3 933 MHz machines running Windows 2000 Pro with 256 MB of ram and 20 GB hard drives purchased in 2001. I simply backed up all important data, popped in the Xandros disk and they were all up, running and configured within a few hours. Before...they were sluggish, slow to boot or load/run programs. Now they are speeding along like new machines. That saved me about $5000 right there!
There are many FREE distros of Linux out there for you to learn on but Xandros is full featured and the simplest for a beginner in my opinion. If you know Windows...you will feel right at home from the start!
Also, with the Xandros book mentioned above...you have a step by step guide for the other more advanced details and learning.
Xandros is impressive, affordable and a shinging example of what Linux is going to become. Watch out Microsoft...here comes the Penguin!
