Independent Comparatives of Anti-Virus Software
The website is dealing with comparatives of various antivirus software. The following products were used: Avast! Professional Edition, AVG Professional, BitDefender Professional Plus, Dr.Web for Windows 95-XP, ESET NOD32, F-Prot for Windows, H+B EDV AntiVir Professional, Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro, McAfee VirusScan, Symantec Norton Anti-Virus, Trend Micro Internet Security. The author of the test considers that the most important property of antivirus product is its capability to detect new threats in advance with generic and/or heuristic techniques. “In advance” means before antivirus patch for new virus will be released. Review of antivirus products conducted by Windows 2000 magazine
The article claims that the latest generation of antivirus software is capable to catch viruses before they do serious damage. Seven leading desktop virus scanner products for Windows 2000 operating system have been choosen and compared. Only products which can detect and clean the latest viruses are presented. The following criteria are considered for comparison: intuitive user interface, automatic virus definition update, flexible sheduling features, flexible notification features, active web content monitoring. Results are presented in table. From the table looks like Panda Antivirus Platinum is the winner. -
Tests of Anti-Virus Software
The aim of this German project is to make independent tests of antivirus, anti-spyware, and personal firewall software. The results are presented in magazine articles. Desktop and Server platforms Windows 98, ME, NT 4, 2000, XP, 2003; Netware, Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Lotus Domino/Notes and MS Exchange are tested. Mega Antivirus Test by David Frelat
Tha article (Septermber 2005) features results of test which check and compare how many viruses are detected by various antivirus programs. Most of the popular antivirus programs found today was used. Every antivirus program were fully updated prior to test and set to their deepest scanning settings. The exact virus count in the file is unknown but there are over 10,000. The file contains many different types of viruses, trojans, worms etc. Scans were done on a P4 2.8c with Windows XP Pro SP2. Results are shown in table with number of found viruses and price of product. -
