Grandkids approval says it all.... January 18, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I gave my grandson, ages 12 & 15, the Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2007 for Christmas. I thought it would be a wonderful aide in the subjects they were studing at school. However, my concern was..."Would it be difficult to navigate and not be used or would they even use it enough to discover all the benefits of the software?"
Well, they are raving about how great it has been in assisting them with their schoolwork...especially in Geometry and Algebra. Mom loves it too because the math help not only gives the answer but explains the steps on how to arrive at the answer.
For my book...money well spent. It is so hard to buy a gift for teenagers that they get excited about... especially one that pertains to schoolwork. I was well pleased with their excitement about the product. I was satisfied with how easy the program was to use.
Use the product once and you will find a live-in tutor.
A program for everyone January 3, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this program simply for the Encarta 2007. I was amazed at all of the wonderful features that Microsoft put into the package. I feel that anyone in school or not would find this program to be a useful tool in your daily life. Enjoy it.
Microsoft Math (included) is a marvel! January 3, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Microsoft Student has exceeded my expectations. It includes Microsoft Math which is an incredibly useful program--it has the following advantages over a graphing calculator: 1) it is MUCH faster, 2) it can explains intermediate steps on certain types of algebra problems, 3) the user interface is both easier and more pleasant to work with, 4) symbolic input is allowed, meaning you can work with such things as cube roots without using clumsy keyboard workarounds, and 5) it is cheaper than a graphing calculator!
I have not yet used the other components of MS Student, but they look promising, too.
Great software; on sale at Staples December 11, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This student helper software makes the best Santa's gift this Xmas! It's got tons of tools and runs smoothly on my PC.
BTW it's on sale for almost free at Staples this week. Merry Xmas!
Way overpriced and too politically correct - Worth $10, max December 1, 2006 2 out of 25 found this review helpful
My friend's son wanted to write a report on shamanism of the Amazon Rainforest. I told him to look it up on my copy of Encarta w/Premium Student 2007. Could he find "entheogens" listed anywhere in Encarta? Or anything mentioning ayahuasca or the Sainta Diame church? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I told him to go to w w w dot erowid dot org and get the truth.
Encarta is *so* politically corrected. Total glitz and glam, replete with sophomoric references. In sum, the Encartas that I have thus far had experience with (including the Reference edition) have been lacklustere at best. They have lots of video embedded into them, but are way soft on actual scholarship - and are almost as self-rightiously opinionated as Brittanica (plus dumbassified/Americanized NLP propaganda to boot).
[...] <-- Amazon censorship at work. Freedom of speech, in Bush's America? Yeah, right.
If Encarta Student is what education has come to in America, we are in dire trouble.
