Product Description Gothic II Gold combines two great hybrid RPG gaming experiences into one -- for incrediblefantasy adventure in a lush, 3D-rendered environment. You slave away in a small mining town, eking out an existence mining the exhausted seaside. They were imprisoned there by a seemingly natural magical barrier, until one brave man managed to burst the bonds of imprisonment. He ventured deep into subterranean temples, answering a call to banish the evil that created that barrier. Spurred by the hatred of men long-suppressed, the prisoners streamed trough the only pass to freedom. Enter this world and fight for a man's right to decide his own fate. The original Gothic storyline flows directly into the expansion pack, for gripping non-stop adventure!

REMEMBER to get updates to this game or it won't be as fun October 8, 2008 This is an awesome game provided you can get all the updates for it or it will be taxing to your nervous system.
Didn't work December 25, 2007 It would not play on my computer. Gothic 1 would and I bought a used version of gothic 2 at a flea market and it does but not this one.
Great game October 25, 2007 This game will keep you playing for a long time if you are into single player rpg's. The graphics are kind of old now, but does not take away from the fun of playing it. Definitely worth getting.
The Mozart of light RPG adventure games October 21, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
What makes this game so good? You have to be careful when you travel, because it's much more difficult to run away from enemies and monsters than in other similar games. There often are multiple paths to the same destination, but some are more dangerous than others, and some are almost always lethal. Combat is more difficult, and in my opinion the combination of combat and skill system is closest to perfection I have experienced in a game of this sort, and I have played nearly everything from Morrowind to Two Worlds and Gothic 3, which is worse in terms of combat and travel (running away from wolves and other 'monsters' being easy as pie: no challenge, no excitement).
As you may have gathered from the other reviews here, you should spend a few minutes learning the combat controls when you start the game. Just save the game and use the first "young wolf" or goblin as the opponent, and practice parrying with one of the early bandits. With most enemies, parrying is useless and the correct tactic includes either crowding or dodging and timing your attacks (unless you're using ranged attacks or magic). Some of the dragons will be impossible to kill if you don't spend your "learning points" very well (or use some "tricks", like powerful magic scrolls), but otherwise this game set a new standard in gameplay which similar games haven't even tried to match or surpass. The combat system often makes you panic in a realistic way. The gameplay is frustrating only when you hit the wrong button or something. The bloodflies aren't the only things that made me experience feelings of horror mingled with disgust. I've hunted down an occasional disgusting bug in real life, and the feelings were the same. No other game has sent cold shivers of fear down my spine, and this one does so often. I recall I once ran into something in Deus Ex that literally made me jump backwards and fall off my chair, but that's different.
I didn't have any trouble with bugs, save that when Raven went through the portal the cut-scene crashed the game so I just didn't bother to watch it. That's the only crash I've experienced during some 60 hours of playing the game.
PS. This is a review of the German version of Die Nacht des Raben, with all the patches installed.
Gothic 2 Review May 25, 2007 I love all the Gothic games and this one is no exception. The graphics are gorgeous and although there are a few bugs in the game the freedom to explore you surroundings is more than worth it. The fighting is a basic hack and slash which you can basically defeat any enemy if you just keep clicking the mouse. The plot isn't all that different than Gothic 1, although it seems much shorter, get strong enough to beat the big bad. Overall it's a pretty good game.
