nice graphics to me March 28, 2008 this is one of the best hunting games that i have owned or tried. works well on my HP newer computer with Vista. have spent many hours playing this game and i like it better than the 2004 and even newer games that are in this series.
My favorite hunting pc game ever October 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have tried all the pc hunting games out there and, in my opinion, Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2006 is the most enjoyable simulated hunting experience you can find.
Let's look at some other types of hunting games available on the pc.
1. Dull and very slow games: games like Deer Hunter 2004/2005, Trophy Hunter 2003, Hunting Unlimited series: These games are meant for someone who has a lot of patience and has no problem with traversing over large amounts of terrain seeing virtually no animals for very long periods of time. There are very few animals per map and, to me, this type of simulation gets a little dull. I just don't end up playing these types of games. The graphics on these games are not very good either. Hunting Unlimited 2008 still uses the same old graphic engine that looks straight out of 1999 and it looks terrible, in my opinion.
2. Arcady games: games like Deer Drive, Big Buck Hunter, and even the new Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2008 trophy Bucks game: These games usually have a static screen with animals just dashing off and you trying to click your mouse on them before they run away. They are very arcady and I can't imagine how anyone could enjoy these types of games for very long. Deer Drive and Big Buck Hunter have static screen where you can't move at all. With Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2008 you can move a little bit but there are invisible walls everywhere keeping you in a certain area and every level is a two minute timed arcady type of objective.
3. Getting attacked games: Cabela's Dangerous Hunts and even the Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2007 10th anniv edition has constant attacks from predators. These type of hunting games can get a little frustrating sometimes but it just depends on what you want in a hunting game.
4. Balanced games: Cabela/Activision has made some very good hunting games with a good balance of realism with some not so realistic elements. These types of hunting games are more enjoyable, in my opinion. Cabela's Big Game Hunter series and Cabela's Outdoor Adventure games provide a good balance.
My personal favorite hunting game of all time is the Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2006 edition. You can easily jump right into a quick hunt with any type of weapon and any place you want (as long as you opened it in the mission levels first). The graphics are really smooth and wonderful. The diversity of environments is great. The side challenges are good. It's simply the most enjoyable pc hunting experience I've had. I have compared this 2006 version to other newer games and I still like this one the best. I have finally found my perfect pc hunting adventure.
Very disappointing... February 12, 2007 As other have stated, this is just a re-hash of BGH 2004, 2005, etc.
This game brought my higher-end notebook to it's knees with glitchy video and jumpy cursor movement despite having the latest drivers and specs 4 times required by the game. Poor programming...
Too bad, because it was fun tracking and bagging the animals. Thank goodness I didn't pay very much for it.

If you have Big Game Hunter 2005 season do not get Big Game Hunter 2006 because it exactly the same. The first one was fun, but I just spent my money getting a duplicate of the 2005.
Nothin' but Trouble... January 27, 2006 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
This game may have potential, but we will probably never find out, as every time we have tried to play it, it crashes in the first 10 minutes. Activision e-mailed us a fix, but like the "Crash Happy" reviewer above, it did not help at all. We are using a Windows XP PC system. Too bad it was a birthday present for a 10 year old. Needless to say, we are very disappointed. Deer Hunter is a much better game...it actually works.
