4 out of 5 stars Copy Protection on disc/unable to play   October 15, 2008
My Nephew has this game so when I found it finally on Amazon I bought it. Only 9.99 (plus shipping) not a bad deal. However once I received the game due to a "copy protection" on the disc my computer couldn't read/play it. Luckily it worked on my Nephew's PC so we traded discs! There should be some kind of warning that the disc can not be played on `writeable' drives before purchasing any games.

3 out of 5 stars Loved the demo, but game not compatible w/ my PC   October 9, 2008
I played the demo of this game and if you have a DVD drive on your computer I strongly recommend it. Game works great and is alot of fun. Unfortunately I don't have a DVD drive so I'm a wee bit cheesed off.

2 out of 5 stars Great Ideas but Boring Game   August 13, 2008
Imperial Glory just isn't a lot of fun. The concept is terrific and there are some wonderful innovations, but gameplay isn't interesting.

The Good: The idea of a Total War type game set in Napoleonic Europe is terrific, as is the idea of allowing the player to devote resources to building politicial and economic buildings in other player's territories. The resource management system, while nonsensical, adds some strategy to economic development as the player struggles to balance gold, raw materials, population and food. The tech tree is a lot fuller than in a Total War game and offers interesting strategic choices. The diplomacy is quite complex and it is possible to win through diplomacy alone.

The Indifferent: As so many other reviewers have pointed out, the game isn't even trying to be historically accurate.

The Bad: As in the case of the Total War series, a lot of effort has been put into the RTS battle system. However, while the graphics are lovely, there is no strategy to the battles and the toughest army always wins. Building improvements isn't much more fun since you usually have to click through multiple turns to save up enough to buy anything. The result is that while the game is great in theory, it is a chore to play. Imperial Glory it is as corageous and inventive as Napoleon himself, but alas, it is about as much fun as a Russian winter.

5 out of 5 stars Imperial Glory: Good Game overall   May 11, 2008
The pluses and negatives of this game depend on you as a player. If you like the rise of nations or age of empires sort of game where you collect raw materials and build armies that can defend your base...etc then this may not be for you. If you are a fan of the board game/pc game risk, then this is more up your alley. Much of the game works on a tactical level on a map of Europe, where you can build buildings, units and research technology in a turn based way. However when you go to war and attack an enemy territory, you can actually fight the battle with the armies you have created. I was very impressed with the battle mode for this game. I know other games like Total War get lots of hype but I think the battle mode is better in Imperial Glory than Total War. The movement is smooth and moving troops is easy. Also for those that like to mod, this game is not impossible to mod and can provide many added hours of fun when you edit the game files and see your changes happen. Bottom line is, if you like a fusion of army control and risk strategy you will like this game. 5 Stars for a British nut like me that loves the period it is set, but at least 4 stars for those that like and want a better version of risk.

4 out of 5 stars IMPERIAL GLORY IS A BLAST   March 3, 2007

If you like strategy games you'll love this one.

The campaign map is somewhat dull but the battle maps are realistic

A real plus is the realistic naval battles.
