My exp. with the free version November 21, 2008 The AVG free version does not rid your system of every bad file on it. If you have say 150 malicious ware, AVG free version will probably expell about 50 out of that. I still had so many pop ups and slow computer performance. Avg has annoying pop ups that gives you options whether to delete a bad file, quarantine, ignore etc. So you click remove or quarantine and it prompts you to restart your computer. You do everything it tells you and guess what? That same annoying pop up box keeps showing up even though you asked to remove it. A full system scan takes me about 1.5 hours and afterwards I'm still bombarded with spyware. I suspect the pay version just removes a tad more files but not too much different.
AVG Anti-Virus & Anti Spyware software October 30, 2008 I recently purchased this item and found it to be very satisfactory for my needs. I'm 83 years old and what you might call Computer Illiterate. I found this software easy to Load and scanned my system finding no problems. I gave this program 4 stars ,will probably up that evaluation later on if it continues to preform as it has since installing it on my system. I am well pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for Virus Protection.
Great Buy-Good Product October 17, 2008 The AVG Anti Virus & Spyware software recently purchased was a very good buy. It also seems to be working well on our home computers and not difficult to install. Also seems easy to use so far and warns you right up front if there is a problem with choices on how to heal it. I like the product very much as it is easier to use than the last program we had.
Hmmm...still not sure yet. October 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm still not sure just how I feel about this software yet. Contrary to some of the other reviews here, I haven't noticed that this software slows my computer down or takes up an unusual amount of space at all. It was very easy to install and get going. I set it up to scan daily at 3 AM, and each morning that I sit down to my computer, I don't really see any evidence that it has performed said scan (no results screen). Another thing is, this software will find tons of spyware and adware, but deleting it is tricky, I am never really quite sure that it is being taken off. It says that it moved it to the "virus vault" or something like that, but WTH does that really mean? I'd feel better if I knew that it was *deleted*. Another indication to me that this stuff isn't actually being removed is that it tends to find a lot of the same sort of stuff with each scan, even if I haven't really visited too many websites since the last scan. My computer was already having problems when I installed this software, and this software doesn't even come close to detecting the real problems. There is still something nasty on here and the scans never find it. If you want simply an anti-spyware/adware protection software, heck I still can't recommend it even for that. You'd be better off with Spy Sweeper or Spyware Doctor, or better yet maybe a combination of all. This software generally wasn't worth what I paid for it, I don't see any significant improvement with my computer's performance, and I am not convinced that it's actually removing the junk that it's finding. Keep searching!
Very good software October 1, 2008 I have used Norton for years. When it expired several months ago, I tried the AVG free version available on their web site. I used it for about 4 months and found it to be okay. Based on that, I decided to get a version I had to pay for. I looked around and found the best price on Amazon and it's for a 2 year subscription.
I have had no problems with it after using it for about 2 months. It was easy to install and has not conflicted with anything on my computer. No start up problems. Nothing. I would highly recommend it. Good value for the money.
