| Customer Reviews: Great for pros and amateurs alike August 3, 2005 Rico (You don't really care) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I went to a girls' film camp this summer, and we used this software to edit our movies. This is what it provided for us:
-easy logging and capturing of clips from the camcorder
-a wide array of audio/video transitions and generators
-the ability to overlap clips
-easy importing of audio/video/image files
-adjustable volume control for each clip
-re-sizing of still images
-alerts when we needed to render something
But the clincher came when we were finishing up our title sequence. We did a documentary on the pros and cons of legalizing weed in Canada, and I thought of having a pot leaf spin in from the side of the screen to replace the maple leaf on the flag, which would then spin away. And we were able to do this with this software. This may take a while to get the hang of, but it'll become a bad habit once you do.
Also, movie fans will be interested to know that this was the software used to edit Napoleon Dynamite.
The bottom line? Don't waste your time with iMovie: Go for the best.
Recommended additional programs: iTunes, iDVD, Adobe Photoshop.
The Best bester and bestest moving pic edit soft ever! May 9, 2005 Sabine Bhandari (Stuttgart, Germany) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am professional editor, in other words I earn my bread and butter from it. I have been using FCP for nearly 2 years now. And I should say I have fun doing so...thanx to Apple Inc. who brought out such a useful software. Simple yet powerful...VERY...I love it. Its ease of use and once you get to know the shortcuts it just zooms...Its like Porsche!!!.....You can really tire your imagination but this thing won't give up. Nice layout and design. Coordinates very well with other prof apps like Compressor, Livetype and QT. Its for anyone from a media student to a professional....much simpler and faster and better than A$%D.
And for hobbyists you have the cheaper version FC Express which is more than you will ever need. So go ahead and buy it and create something that'll move the world.

I just started my first video editing film production class and we are required to use final cut pro. All I can say is WHY oh WHY did I not use sooner? I was able to seemlessly splice and merge several days of footage. This software saved me hours of work on both the front and back-end of my project!
