DOA without doc August 26, 2008 I have written code in IDEs for decades. I am big on them. I disagree about the notion that it leads to 'generic looks'. I have been with Borland with Turbo Pascal to Object Pascal to what turned into Delphi. Delphi is a great product. Delphi for PHP has literally nothing to do with Delphi per se. It is a standalone product with a great IDE and an integrated debugger. All very cool, endless possibilities from what I can see. Mostly I can see this from the Youtube video folks have created and put out there. Because, as the other reviewer noted, there is no documentation to speak of. Yes, there is a reference for the class library but please - this is an IDE. The class library is available under GPL and if I wanted to code with it, I did not need this product.
A suspicious issue is that there is no aftermarket book, no 'website created with Delphi for PHP', not a single 'application' in the sample code but merely a collection of widgets. The question I have is: Is this product going to be around tomorrow and will the company provide a user guide and a real application?
I see enormous potential for this engine, there is full-blown Ajax support, controls you would pay a thousand dollars for if you bought them separately but useless. Once the documentation is there this product will take the market by storm. Otherwise it will remain DOA.
Good idea bad implementation! February 10, 2008 I am not too keen to IDEs writing my code. They often lead to sloppy code that lead to very generic-looking applications. But sometimes they are helpful to do quick & dirty jobs fast. The big problem with this package is a lack of documentation. The 67 page Users' Guide is so insufficient that it only explains how to use on two of the many components the package offers. Even then it does not explain the use of these components well enough for me to use them. If CodeGear expects this product to be useful they need to write an in-depth tutorial and not expect other people to try to figure out the software and write tutorials for CodeGear as has been done for Delphi and JBuilder. The product has been on the market for a short while now and nobody has written a tutorial.
